An undercover investigation by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has revealed the horrific and criminal cruelty that continues to underpin the business of some of the world’s top ‘luxury’ brands. According to PETA, which gave its findings to CBS MoneyWatch, pythons are bashed with hammers, impaled on hooks, and skinned alive to provide skins used by Italian firm Gucci to produce expensive handbags, shoes, and belts that some of the world’s ridiculous set then go on to wear and carry these creepy products as evidence of their richness and ‘style’ quotient.
PETA’s probe of two large python farms in Thailand took place from February through November last year, with undercover workers shooting graphic and disturbing video of pythons continuing to move about while having their heads bashed with hammers and impaled with metal hooks.
The report said PETA investigators visited Sisatchanalai Python Farm in Sukhothai and Closed-Cycle Breeding International in Uttaradit province in the predominantly Buddhist kingdom. One investigator, who spoke on condition of anonymity for self-preservation, described watching the pythons “struggling” throughout the horrific process. “They inflate their bodies with water, so the body gets a bit wider and it’s easier to rip [off] the skin,” the investigator, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told CBS MoneyWatch.
“It’s as cruel and disgusting as any place, where their heads are bashed with hammers, and some are still moving while being inflated with water,” the investigator said. The two Thai farms house as many as 15,000 snakes and kill about 20 pythons a day.

This is terrible. Has Gucci no shame, never mind a conscience? And what about those who patronise this criminal activity by buying animal products and promoting brands such as Gucci? It’s wrong to call it a luxury brand. It should be called a criminal brand.
