The company said in a press statement that this is a limited voluntary recall affecting only 315 bags of the product sold by Walmart in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. The best-by date and lot code can be found on the bottom seal at the back.

The company said the potential presence of loose metal pieces in the bags could pose a risk to pets. Those whose pets may have consumed the affected product should monitor it for unusual behaviour and contact a veterinarian in the event of any concern, it said. Use of the suspect bags should be stopped immediately, it said.

The company has asked consumers to contact consumer care at 1-800-525-5273 from 0800 AM to 0800 PM Central Standard Time Monday through Friday and 0800 AM to 0400 PM Saturday and Sunday or visit https://www.pedigree.com/update to initiate a return or with questions.

No other Pedigree or Mars Petcare U.S. products are affected or being recalled, the company said. It said it is working with Walmart in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas to ensure that the affected product is no longer sold and has been removed from inventory.
